OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR
by Theatre Workshop/ Joan Littlewood / Charles Chilton.
By arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
Director: Alan Linfield
Musical Director: Fiona Moran
The Vale Gilbert & Sullivan Society will holding auditions for this brilliant show this coming
Sunday, 22nd June at 2pm
at the
Anthony Hall, London Road, Aston Clinton.
We are particularly in need of enthusiastic younger performers (18-30ish) to play soldiers, their wives / sweethearts, chorus girls, munitions workers etc, so if you know of anyone who fits the bill please put out the word and encourage them to come along. The songs involved in the show are not difficult, and rehearsing and performing it promises to be a highly enjoyable and rewarding experience.
The performance of this musical satire on the First World War coincides with the 90th anniversary of the end of that conflict, so the opening night will, appropriately, be on November 11th. The show will run every night until Saturday 15th, on which there will also be a matinee performance.
Males aged 16-21
Thoroughly Modern Millie
Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre
Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.
It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behaviour were changing forever.
Based on the popular movie, the stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers.
Two Males required aged 16-21 to audition for the following parts:
1) Bun Foo
2) Kenneth/Policeman/Ensemble.
Bun Foo is one of two Chinese characters (they do not need to be Chinese) who often steal the show. He has a duet with Ching Ho (older brother) and a medium speaking role. However, they sing in Mandarin and speak in Cantonese!
This is not as daunting as it sounds, because there is a CD to help and we have a Chinese woman coming in to coach. They really are quite comic parts and whoever plays Bun Foo can have a lot of fun with it.
Kenneth/Policeman has a few small lines. However, the role of ensemble is quite substantial. They will be in the chorus but also have quite a lot of dancing (mostly tap). We have an outstanding choreographer, so previous experience is not vital but confidence is required.
Rehearsals are in Aylesbury 11-20th August, 10am-7pm
Show dates are 21-23rd August at the Court theatre, Tring, Herts. 7.30pm with a 2.00pm Saturday matinee.
