Aylesbury Opera Group presents
In stark contrast to their last production - Bize's Carmen, Aylesbury Opera Group has chosen, for 2010, Donizetti's light hearted opera the Elixir of Love.
This very approachable work is full of charming arias, rollicking choruses and some vocal fireworks for those 'canary fanciers' among you. If you like Gilbert and Sullivan you will like this, though much of it is also reminiscent of many of Rossini's operas with their cheerful good humour and infectious tunes.
The simple plot concerns the efforts of a naive peasant, Nemorino, to win the love of the wealthy Adina with the aid of a love potion sold to him by the flamboyant quack Doctor Dulcamara.
